How much does EV charger installation cost in California?

The charger itself is usually the smaller part. Cost is driven by the distance from your panel to the parking spot, whether the run is exposed or fished through finished walls, and whether your service has capacity. Can I install an EV charger if I only have 100 amp service?

Often yes. A load calculation tells us what is actually available, and where it is tight we use load management so the charger backs off when the dryer or oven is running. That is usually cheaper than upgrading the whole service in California.

Should I get a hardwired charger or a 14-50 outlet?

Hardwiring supports higher continuous current, has no plug to loosen over time and is required for some units outdoors. A 14-50 outlet is cheaper and lets you take the charger with you. For most California homeowners staying put, hardwired at 48A is the better long-term buy.

Do EV charger installs need a permit in California?

Yes, a new 240V dedicated circuit is permitted work in California. We handle the permit and the inspection. It also matters for utility and rebate programs, which usually require proof of permitted installation.
